Illustration：Amyloidβ/A4 Protein Precursor770 (586-595) (human, mouse, rat) also known asAPP-derived inhibitory peptide (APP-IP), efficiently inhibited the activity ofgelatinase A (matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2)) (IC50 = 30 nM), whereas itsinhibitory activity towards membrane type 1-matrix metalloproteinase was muchweaker (IC50 = 2 µM). The decapeptide had poor inhibitory activity towardsgelatinase B, matrilysin or stromelysin (IC50 > 10 µM). APP-IP is likely anactive site-directed inhibitor of gelatinase A. Clarification of its mode ofaction might provide a lead for the design of novel anti-cancer drugs that blockspecific processes of tumor invasion and angiogenesis.
